The Sobrarbe region is located in the Central Pyrenees, bordered by the Ordesa National Park, Monte Perdido and the Añisclo Canyon, and by two national parks, the Guara Sierra and Canyons and the Posets Maladeta National Park.

The strategic and legendary location, its impressive natural beauty and the cultural remains left by mankind over time, such as churches and medieval castles, make this one of the most visited regions in the Huesca province.

The Sobrarbe region is made up of the hydrographic basin of the Ara River and the upper Cinca basin, from its source in the Pineta valley up to the town of Abizanda. The capital of the region, Ainsa, is located at the confluence of these two rivers. These two rivers divide the Sobrarbe region into two very distinct valleys: the Ara Valley, whose main towns are Boltaña, Broto and Torla; and the Cinca Valley, whose main towns are Valle de Chistau, Bielsa, Tella, Escalona, Lafortunada...and its capital, Ainsa.

The geographic proximity to the neighbouring country of France allows snow sport lovers to enjoy the best snow on the ski slopes of Piau Engaly and Saint Lary Soulan, which are only 40 Km from Aínsa.

The town of Aínsa has ancient origins and the charm of its mediaeval buildings can be seen in its stone and granite walls. Ainsa’s old, winding streets are full of mystery. As capital of the region, it lacks nothing, and due to its location, it is a town which is a very attractive place for holidays, since it is relatively close to other well-known places in the Aragonese Pyrenees.

A tranquil stroll through the old cobbled streets of Aínsa allows the visitor to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of a remarkable mediaeval setting. The castle, the city walls and its gates, the Plaza Porticada, the Santa Maria church, or the façades of the Casa Arnal and Casa Bielsa, are all good examples of the vigorous personality of this town, declared Artistic-Historic Site in 1965.
